World Health Day is a vastly celebrated global event each year on April 7.

This day has been recognized by the United Nations as an observance day rather than a holiday. It is also the day when the World Health Organization (WHO) was established in 1948 right after World War II, considering that The International Office for Public Hygiene was overburdened by the after effects of the war. Currently, the WHO has about 193 member countries who are constant donors that keep the organization running. The WHO receives donations and contributions in two forms: the first is by the member states’ contributions in the form of membership dues every two years, which represents 20% of the total budget. The second is by voluntary contributions, from member states and other partners such as other United Nations organizations, intergovernmental organizations, philanthropic foundations, the private sector, and other sources.

World Health Day has a general purpose, which is to raise awareness about overall health and to remind the world to care enough for other people’s well-being across the globe.

This international day is celebrated in many ways, one of which is conferences that concern general health, as well as organizing various events in order to demonstrate the WHO’s work that is helping the world become a better place through briefings and through free or easy access to medical services and tests.

The WHO has a general goal to ensure that a billion more people have universal health coverage, and to protect a billion more from health emergencies, plus providing a further billion people with better health and well-being.

The High Atlas Foundation (HAF) is a great example of engaging in community health services in relation to environmental approaches; HAF is directly interested in making clean water available to people from different regions on a daily basis. Along with this useful approach, the HAF’s tree planting projects are organic without the use of pesticides in hope of giving people safe food to maintain their health; HAF works with l’Office National de Sécurité Sanitaire des Produit Alimentaires, Service de la Protection des Végétaux, in order to insure the safety of plants before distribution across the country. Hence, our foundation is contributing to the global community not only on this international day, but all year long.
