Tune in as we plant trees across Morocco.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Monday, January 17, 2022, the\u00a0High Atlas Foundation<\/a>\u00a0team along with hundreds of people from dozens of communities across Morocco will mobilize to together plant thousands of fruit trees during our\u00a0annual tree planting event<\/a>, which we are calling\u00a0Green Hope<\/strong>\u00a0this year.<\/p>\n

You’re invited to tune in on\u00a0Facebook<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Instagram<\/a>\u00a0throughout the day on\u00a0January 17 as we<\/span>\u00a0broadcast live from the field, revisit some of our favorite moments, share stories, and talk to friends and partners throughout the day.<\/p>\n

Trees from the 14 HAF-supported community nurseries in eight Moroccan provinces will be planted by youth, cooperatives, associations, and farmers at various locations in the Marrakech-Safi, Souss-Massa, Draa-Tafilalet, Beni Mellal-Khenifra, Fes-Meknes, Oriental, and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima regions, and in Boujdour.<\/p>\n

This event has taken place on the third Monday of January since\u00a02014 when HAF planted its millionth tree<\/a>. Not only is it an ideal time for planting in Morocco, it also coincides with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, which celebrates the same dedication to community and sustainable development that HAF represents.<\/p>\n

This year, the event also coincides with Tu BiShvat, a Jewish holiday that celebrates the environment through the planting of trees. In celebration, our team will plant fruit trees in Moroccan Jewish cemeteries in select regions of the country and at the American Legation building in Tangier and conduct cultural awareness activities at various sites.<\/p>\n

We are also pleased to have the support of\u00a0Dar America Casablanca<\/a>, part of the U.S. Consulate General in Casablanca, to sponsor 100 youth participants of BE GREEN, a field-based experiential STEAM learning program implemented by our team. In addition to this tree planting day of service, these youth will learn critical skills to work in the emerging green tourism sector in Morocco.<\/p>\n

This tree planting season, which began in December 2021 and ends in March 2022, HAF is collaborating with farming communities around Morocco to transplant 1 million fruit tree saplings from 14 nurseries, which together total more than 2 million seeds. Over 4 million trees have been planted to date, including over 240,000 so far this year.<\/em><\/p>\n
