Training on the Relationship between Associations and Media<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rabat, Morocco<\/p>\n

HAF Office Manager Fatima Zahra Laaribi and Program Director for the Al Haouz and Taroudant provinces Amina Al Hajjami attended a training workshop in Rabat organized by\u00a0Search for Common Ground (SFCG)<\/a>\u00a0on the relationship between Associations and Media along with eight associations: (Tadamoune, En-Nakhil, Amal, Women\u2019s Weaving Cooperative of Ain Leuh, Dar Si Hmad, Cooperative Taytmatine, Femmes de Touama, Essabahe and Nawat al Moustakbal.<\/p>\n

The training had two purposes: helped the associations that empower women to develop their communication skills and provide them with a deeper understanding of how media functions and what topics are attractive to the media. Also, the training was an opportunity for the associations to share their work with a wider public through the media. This training is part of SFCG\u2019s project \u201cEveryone Gains,\u201d which works with women\u2019s associations throughout Morocco to support economic empowerment.<\/p>\n

Below, in English, is Fatima Zahra\u2019s account of the training workshop; in Arabic is Amina\u2019s perspective.<\/p>\n

Day One:<\/p>\n

After being introduced, Amina and I provided a general view about HAF\u2019s mission and the participatory approach. We also shared our achievements and activities in ten provinces of Morocco where HAF operates. In addition, we learned about the other associations\u2019 experiences and work throughout Morocco.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, Mr. Safi, a journalist at the Moroccan National Radio, started his presentation by comparing three national newspapers (Sabah, Al-Masa, and Al-Ahdat Al-Wataniya) in terms of the image of women in newspapers. Then he spoke about what is worth publishing and what attracts the media most: creativity, excitement and uniqueness.<\/p>\n

In the afternoon there was a good conversation between participants and journalists, visual journalism (2M), electronic (Ache-Press), and the written press represented by its editor, Mr. Abdelhak Lachagar. During our discussion with these journalists, we learned when and how to contact the media and what are types of stories and topics they are interested in. In addition, we discussed the difficulties faced by associations in their relationship with the media.<\/p>\n

Day Two:<\/p>\n

The second day focused on practical skills, where we learned how to write effective press releases and how to participate successfully in television and radio interviews. For these trainings we had the following activities:<\/p>\n

\u2022 A Summary of How to be Ready for Radio and Television Interviews<\/p>\n

The workshop gave us the opportunity to talk to the media and to share our experiences with them, where we have recorded with television and radio ChadaFM.<\/p>\n

The main result of the workshop was that HAF now has a set of associations and journalists who we can contact to share our successful projects in order to reach a wider audience. Also, we learned how to identify a communications coordinator and how to build symbiotic relationships with media as an important means to reach a wide and various audiences.<\/p>\n
