Strategic Planning Training Summary

Karam-Yane Azzabi, Tahannaout
HAF Financial Manager

From 25 to 27 November 2019, in Tahannaout (Al Haouz province, Morocco), several public sector actors local association representatives participated in a strategic planning training session along with High Atlas Foundation (HAF) members Amina El Hajjami (Project Director) and Karam-Yane Azzabi (Financial Manager). This event was sponsored by Morocco’s economic promotion and local development project (PEDEL) in partnership with the German cooperation Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and it targeted several officials of the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH), National Office  of the Agricultural Council (ONCA), Regional Center for Investment (CRI) and many other state organizations.

The first day began with defining key terms and learning about different approaches, such as top-down design. The group then identified objectives and learned how to recognize results-indicators and create evaluation measures.
The next day provided practical examples explored through group work. Activities included identifying prioritization criteria and formulating product and performance indicators.

The final day served as a closing, during which groups developed a results-and-resources-matrix for the two priority products taken as examples.

These three days were highly satisfactory in teaching participants the basics of strategic planning and giving opportunities for practical application. Further training to complete the work is eagerly awaited.
