Today, 6 November 2013, is the 38th Anniversary of the Green March.
On October 6, 1975, The late king of Morocco Hassan II (May Allah bless his soul) announced the organization of the largest peaceful march, which became one of the miracles of the twentieth century and marked a key moment in Morocco’s peaceful history. It is called the “Green March” because it was a march of peace, love and freedom. It was a march for a meeting between the Moroccan People and their desert homeland.
The Volunteers of the Green March carried Books of the Holy Q’uran, flags, photos of the king and banners showing the return of the Moroccan Sahara; and they chanted: “The Greatest Allah”, believing in their victory without weapons; because their weapons at that time were safety and peace. This peaceful march was successful in putting an end to three quarters of a century of occupation and enabled the country of Morocco to achieve its complete territorial unity.
On November 5, 1975 , His Majesty the late King Hassan II addressed his People to participate in the Green March, saying: “… Tomorrow Inshaa’Allah (if God is willing), you will break through the borders. Tomorrow, Inshaa’Allah, the Green March will be launched. Tomorrow, Inshaa Allah, you will step on a part of your territory and you will touch a sand of your sands and you will embrace a land of your beloved country…”.
On November 6, 1975 , the volunteers were brought together from different regions of Morocco in the city of Tarfaya in the South of Morocco, waiting for a sign from King Hassan II to start the march for the Liberation of the Moroccan Sahara from Spanish colonialism. Approximately 350,000 Moroccan men and women with their children and youth came out in response to the call of the King and the Country, in the name of peace and love of the homeland. The following song, which is still engraved in the memories of all Moroccans and is broadcast by all Moroccan channels on the 6th of November every year to celebrate the National Day of “Al Massiira Al Xadra” (Green March).
