F2F Updates from Ourtan Coop

By Zineb LAADAM

The High Atlas Foundation (HAF) Farmer-to-Farmer team travelled to Ait Hammou Lahcen village in Tazart municipality (Marrakech-Safi region) to meet with the members of the Ourtan Cooperative.

The Ourtan Co-op was created in 2019 by 29 women and produces table olives with the goal to integrate rural women into work.

During the gathering, the team presented the HAF history and Farmer to Farmer (F2F) program with the co-op’s members and the president, Malika Bounfour, guided the group on a wonderful tour around the olive lands to learn more about the women’s work within the cooperative from production to marketing.

A meaningful highlight of this visit was a successful roundtable discussion. The co-op, who mainly produces and sells table olives, needs training on marketing and organizational operations. The F2F program can follow up with an assignement in order to deliver such training.

Ourtan Co-op works on defending rural women and strives to create a future in which all women will be self-reliant, truly empowered, and appreciated in their community. The incredible women present were excited for an exchange of ideas and techniques used by HAF facilitators in the Imagine program. The HAF staff looks forward to continuing their role as advocates for social change in Morocco alongside the organization’s dedicated partners.
